Two retrograde planets overlapping in a relationship-governing sign is worth knowing about. It is also worth saying plainly that Vedic astrology treats retrogression rather differently from the popular Western version.

What Vedic Astrology Says About Retrogression

In the classical Vedic view a retrograde planet is not weakened — it is, if anything, considered stronger. Retrogression is counted in Cheshta Bala, the "motional strength" component of Shadbala, and a retrograde planet scores highly there. The traditional reading is that a retrograde planet gives its results with unusual intensity, and often in a way that revisits the past rather than opening something new.

That is a meaningfully different claim from the popular "everything breaks" framing. The classical caution attached to a retrograde Mercury is about direction, not damage: matters ruled by Mercury — communication, contracts, travel, commerce, analysis — tend to loop back on themselves rather than progress in a straight line.

Why Libra Matters Here

Mercury is retrograde in Libra for this entire window, and Libra is ruled by Venus — the house of partnership, contracts, trade and balance. A Mercury retrograde in a Venus sign concentrates the usual themes onto agreements and relationships specifically, rather than spreading them across everything.

In practice the traditional reading points at contracts that need re-reading, negotiations that reopen, and conversations with partners — business or personal — that return to ground you thought was settled. None of that is inherently bad. Reopened negotiations often close on better terms.

The Venus Overlap

Venus retrograde from October 3 to November 14 covers all but three weeks of the Mercury window, and both turn direct on the same day. Venus governs relationships, comfort, and value; Mercury governs the discussion of them. • Do not cancel your life: Mercury goes retrograde three or four times a year, for roughly three weeks each time. Roughly a fifth of the year. Treating it as a period when nothing can be done is not a classical position.
• Where it actually matters: A retrograde Mercury matters far more if Mercury rules or occupies a significant house in your own chart, or if you are running a Mercury dasha. That is chart-specific and cannot be read from the transit alone.
